The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is a discipline created at the turn of the last century by F. M. Alexander. A former orator and rider, Alexander realized through his own experience that we physically contract in response to stress, which creates unwanted tension and pain. The Alexander Technique is experience based learning which combines hands on work and the demonstration of practical learning tools. There are both therapeutic and educational components to this process as people learn simple self-empowerment skills which enable them to maintain their own physical and mental health. For riders, the Alexander Technique addresses the physical stresses associated with riding. The benefits experienced include improved posture, a deeper seat, better flexibility, pain relief, and stress reduction.
